There's a story behind most of my pottery. Sometimes it's simply a memory evoked by a tune that turns into a piece of pottery, sometimes it's the items I use that inspire. This pot has a special story.

One of my students worked on a piece for untold classes. She'd play with it, become unhappy and have to put it aside. Finally she decided it wasn't going anywhere, she was never going to be happy with it and decided to trash it. I started looking at it after she left and saw something really cool. I tore her pot into pieces and reworked it into the pot you see above. I did a rewind of her pottery and recycled her "trash".

I had a hard time parting with the piece, but ultimately I have to move things out of my personal collection to make way for the new. What's really neat about this one is that the lady who bought it, Karen, was so enthusiastic that she decided to take some classes with me so she could learn how to make her own. She now has a kiln, wheel and her own new studio! Can't wait to see her finished pieces.

Overall this has been a pot with a purpose! It served as a lesson and then moved on to inspire a new potter. Writing about it makes me want to get it back... <g>.
